"The Boxer Tradition: What is it?" flier for Boxer Day

Boxer was once the proud protector of a Chinese family before he found his way into the hands of Pacific University alum Joseph Elkanah Walker. Since his chance arrival at Pacific, Boxer became an increasingly significant part of the school's identity.

A student prank that took him from his initial resting place sparked a tradition that would last for decades. Students battled over him and embraced him as their mascot. Thanks to their desperation and ingenuity, the Spirit of Pacific found himself in a number of unexpected places, including a block of ice, a graveyard, and WWI France.
